Educational services are offered to the children at Hoffman Homes for Youth in a variety of ways. The Hoffman Academy is a licensed, Private Academic School (PAS), located in the Gettysburg Area School District (GASD), on the campus of Hoffman Homes for Youth. The Academy meets the needs of students requiring special education services for emotional support. The Academy also collaborates with GASD to provide many blended options for other services and placements for students with special needs, as well as regular education, including, but not limited to, the GASD sponsored Cyber Classroom on campus. The main objective is to provide an individualized educational program to each child in the least restrictive environment.
Hoffman Academy is an on-campus licensed Private Academic School (PAS) for those children who qualify for special education services for grades 1-12. Creative and flexible methods of meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs of each child are a vital part of our curriculum. These individual needs are addressed through the development and implementation of an Individualized Education Program (IEP) that must include input from the child’s guardian and other team members.
The Academy has the following services to offer throughout the school day:
- Teacher and Teacher Aide in each classroom
Areas to include a library, cafeteria, gymnasium, outdoor fields, a walking trail, and playgrounds
- Mindfulness room
- 1:1 Technology, Apple iPads
- Opportunities to receive counseling throughout the school day
Opportunity to participate in the Creative Therapies (Art, Music, Animal-Assisted, Equine-Assisted)
- Utilization of Restorative practices
- Mindfulness instruction a minimum of one time a day
- Positive behavioral support practices
- RNs for medical care, School Counselor, School Psychologist
Contracted individuals for Speech Therapy, Occupational therapy, Physical therapy, and ESL
- Extended School Year (ESY) program for those identified with this need
Gettysburg Area School District (GASD) sponsors a Cyber Classroom, utilizing the Virtual Learning Network, for our children in the residential program who are regular education students. GASD provides the technology to include the computer, keyboard, and printer. Hoffman Academy provides staff in that classroom to manage and assist the children through the school day.
Day Students may apply for Hoffman Academy through a referral by their home school district. A student must qualify for special education services to attend the Hoffman Academy.
We look forward to meeting with you and your child!
