Clinical Programs

Hoffman Homes for Youth serves youth and young adults diagnosed with a mental health disorder. These include diagnoses such as Major Depression, Bi-polar, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Young adults admitted to our program have been identified as being at risk to themselves or others and a large majority have experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, and/or neglect, as well as other types of trauma.

Hoffman Homes for Youth focuses on a trauma informed treatment approach. The trauma informed approach addresses the ways in which trauma, adversity, and chronic stress influence individual behavior as well as the ways in which entire organizations can be influenced by trauma, adversity, and chronic stress. We have the philosophy of looking at the young adults in care and asking “what happened to you” to provide a therapeutic environment. The Clinical Program has 8 master’s level therapists who are trained in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT). The therapists provide the following services:

  • Individual Therapy
  • Group Therapy – Topics include Anger Management, Self-Esteem, Social Skills/Life Skills, Coping Skills/Stress Management, Relaxation and Bullying Prevention. Additional topics may be used as deemed appropriate by therapists.
  • Family Therapy (with video conferencing available)
  • Specialty Group Therapies
  • Coordination with the youth’s psychiatrist
  • Treatment team leader
  • Collaboration with other treatment team members from the community

We employ two very experienced and knowledgeable psychiatrists. The psychiatrists approve admissions and discharge plans, provide diagnosis and treatment services, prescribe and monitor medications, direct treatment teams, and provide clinical direction and training to the therapists and treatment team members.

Specialty groups meet in predetermined cycles based on campus needs and are designed for youth who have specific clinical concerns to address. Topics may include:
